MEET-UP « European fire fighting aircrafts to fight tomorrow’s fires »
March 25, 2025 | 14h30-17h00 | Pôle juridique et judiciaire de l'Université de Bordeaux
Aerospace Valley, in partnership with Nîmes Métropole and Airbus invite you to take part in an event on the evolution of forest fires in the context of climate change, and how new aircrafts can meet the new challenges.
Every year, millions of hectares of land around the world go up in smoke, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives and damage to the environment, ecosystems and population.
Analyses of European forest fires over the last 30 years show an increase in the length of the fire season. Another consequence is the new context of forest fires, characterized by rapid fire spread, intense combustion, long-range fire detection and unpredictable changes. As a result, the emergence of giant wildfires is a growing concern in Europe and worldwide. Recent events in California are a sad example.
New fire-fighting resources are needed to reinforce existing ones and adapt to this new situation. Aeronautics is one of the pillars of this fight, for surveillance, coordination and logistics, but above all for aerial firefighting.
To meet these challenges, many manufacturers have launched projects: new aircraft programs; modifications to bomber aircraft; new communication systems; optimization of release systems, etc.
Come and meet experts and innovators working on these new challenges !
